meet meat

How is the “food” slaughtered ?

After hundreds of years of industrialism, the act of killing animals has become taboo and death has been abstracted. The production of meat is sterilised: there is no more blood, no more bones, no more heads. The animal disappears - replaced by a product.

Meet Meat does not criticise the act of eating meat; but rather seeks to educate about what we might not see in supermarkets. Using the tools of commercial marketing, five discreet killing machines are turned into fluffy, colourful and cute toys. Challenging oneself to meet these objects is a way of paying respect to the beasts, becoming aware of the privilege and the responsibility of celebrating death and the living.
