P4-U

What would a world look like where one could not leave a physical trace of oneself in one’s surroundings?

P4 standards are the most extreme isolation rules for the most dangerous laboratories. Using the World Health Organisation’s Laboratory Safe Manual as a background reference, I have designed a 110-page speculative scenario, imagining what P4 laboratory safety rules would look like and imply in the context of an everyday flat. Hygiene is constant, food is forbidden, entering or leaving the apartment is ultra-regulated and follows a strict decontamination protocol; and after a while, one comes to miss the sound of the mosquito in the night or the image of a sock lying under the bed.

The story is divided into 4 documents:
1: P4-Unit
2: P4 side effects
3: The right dose of chaos
4: Care & Contemplation in a sterile environment

Chinese proverb: Water which is too pure has no fish.
